Brunnen to Stans, 25Km and 770m gain
The day started with a ferry across the lake at 09.19 and Walter was waiting on the boat with a couple of ladies from Nuremberg. He mentioned them to me yesterday. They are walking on the Camino for a week every year and have a realistic expectation of reaching Compostela many years in the future.
These ladies are true pilgrims; they insist on visiting every church and every chapel en route and there are many. All have a stamp for the pilgrim credential. And, time being on their side, they are in no hurry to reach the sanctuary of the night’s accommodation. So today we walked with Silvie and Claudia and I collected many stamps in my credential.
As usual the hills were severe but by the end of the day we had gained just 120m and despite a modest 25Km we arrived at the accommodation just after 6pm. I feel like I’ve walked 40Km.
Walter booked the accommodation and struck an excellent deal on a farm near Stans. It has no evening meal so we carried beer from the nearest shop and ordered pizzas. We have a room for four and I have to go because evening prayers are about to start in German.

Am impressed that the farmers are mowing hay on such steep slopes then using a blower to move the hay to a level where it can be collected 😕
Some of the slopes are very steep and they drive heavy trucks at crazy angles. You can just see one at the top of the last photo
Kia ora, Tim. Wow! Fantastic terrain to climb up and around. I would love to be doing that.
Imagine the effort to build those tracks and steps. I have to assume that they have been created just for people to go hiking rather than as routes move pilgrims and goods. Kia kaha.
Yes they must be very old paths. Switzerland is certainly a country of many ups and downs
Tim, Tim, Tim…you are a treasure, always make me laugh… 😆 The things you do for company on a trail! You’ll definitely be on the credit side of those tipping scales at The End. No compostela needed; you are absolved of previous transgressions…& you did it in just one day. 😇 If tomorrow is more of the same, it’s pure Brownie points 😉, your soul is saved. 🙏
I even signed the visitor books for the record. There are so many chapels…
Hey Tim, always a pleasure to follow your Camino’s and nice to see you back on the trail. I met the the gang from the Confraternity of Rome on their way to Calais the other day and hope to see how we can work together this year. It would be nice to see you upon your return, sometime. Cheers for now and happy trails.

Hi Torin, good to hear from you and let’s get together in the summer. I think the autocorrect needs to go back to school
