Day 22 – Intermission

0Km

I’d barely dripped the four drops into the little hole on the Covid test card this morning when a thick red line appeared against the T, confirming the worst. I can’t understand how the previous test could have been negative, given the symptoms. Anyway there will now be a short intermission until I feel like walking again.

In the meantime, some more photos of Heidenheim Abbey and the remarkable family of Richard the Pilgrim from Devon. Between him and his three children, Winibald, Wanibald & daughter Walburga, they made the pilgrimage to Rome and then established Christianity in this part of Germany. That was quite something in the early 8th century.

  1. Hello Tim,

So sorry to hear you have been struck down by the dreaded lurgy. Hoping you feel better very soon.

    Vikki

  2. Hope you soon recover. Flights connect with Covid! It happened to me on a return flight from Munich after Oberammergau. Get well soon Tim

    • Thanks. This is my third dose and every time after a flight. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Oberammergau Passion Play. Hopefully I’ve still got your email address because WordPress don’t share it

      • I will write to you about Oberammergau and then you will have my email address

  3. Get well soon Tim

  4. I’m glad to see they had a sense of humour back in the 700’s regarding children’s names.

  5. wishing you a speedy recovery! I hope you have a nice place to recover

    • Hi Reva, I moved into a nice apartment so I can minimise the risk of transmission

    Hi Tim,

Sorry to hear that you are unwell – do take it easy and make sure you are fully recovered before setting off again.

I was excited to learn about where you are staying . I first came across Richard the Pilgrim and his family in 2014 when I was walking from Dunkirk to follow the Western Front until it joined the Via Francigena. The church of St Walburga in Veurne in Belgium (spelt Furnes in French) celebrates them all, and when I found Richard’s grave in a church in Lucca it was like meeting an old friend I’d met earlier on the road.

    Get well soon!

    • Fascinating. And then there’s the mystery oil with miraculous powers that leaks from Walburga’s grave at the same time every year. Another thing I learned about tiny Heidenheim is that they are 3rd in the Bundesliga. Stadium holds 15000. Chelsea coming soon

    • By the way, I think you need a new keyboard

  7. Philippa T

That is unfortunate Tim, hope you recover very soon. The painting and sculptures of pilgrim Richard’s family are beautiful! Best wishes!

  8. Tassie Kaz

Sorry you’ve had to halt proceedings Tim…hope it’s not severe this time around.

I’m with you in more than spirit as I tested negative this morning but have that sinking feeling…& I’m away from home too (NSW). 🤒🤧😷 Will be third hit for me as well.

    Speedy recovery. 🤗

    • Oh no, the curse of flying. I hope you’re not too bad. It’s miserable

Kia kaha, Tim. So sorry to learn that you are ill. Enjoy ill health by indulging yourself with fine food and best beverages. Loved the picture of the family, especially with mother holding what looks like a glass of wine. Is it sacramental wine or just to show that she is a good wife preparing for her family? Kia pai (get well soon) kia kaha.

    • That’s good advice to aid recovery. The photo of the three family sculptures is more atmospheric without flash but some detail is obscured. I’ve added a close up photo which shows she is not holding anything. It’s modern art!

Kia Ora Tim, I hope that you are on the path to feeling better and that you’ll soon be back on the pilgrim path. Kia pai,kia kaha.

      • Thanks for your wishes Vicky, I think I’m back !

  10. Walkmag

good luck 👍 wising you hasty wellness

    • Thank you. At least it’s a lot less scary than it would have been in 2020

  11. Ugh! And so soon into your journey continuation. This strain is super contagious. I have friends who have managed to dodge the dreaded “C” for 4 years, but came down with it this year. I hope the symptoms aren’t too terrible and that you’re able to get back to it soon. Are you going to be staying where you are, or are you headed home to recuperate? Be safe, get some rest, and get well.

    • The symptoms are familiar as this is my third dose. I’m isolating myself here which is quite easy. I have an apartment and there is a lovely beer garden opposite where I can eat and drink well away from others. Don’t feel sorry for me! And when I feel better I can walk without any fear of meeting anyone

  12. Best wishes, Tim.

Stay safe and get well soon, during this phase of your pilgrimage experience.

    Buen camino

  13. I am glad to see you have so many well wishers Tim. I would also like to say get better soon. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
I think Richard the Pilgrim must have had a good sense of humour- bet he got his kids names muddled up! 🤣
    Suzi X

    • Thanks, Suzi. It must have been chaos at the dinner table. Also, his wife was Wuna of Wessex. It’s all worthy of a few seasons on Netflix
