Day 15 – Another day, another lake

l’Ecorcheboeuf to Lausanne, 20Km

Today was the final leg of the walk down to Lausanne on Lake Geneva. It was just under 20Km to the Cathedral or just over 20Km to the bar where Walter and I had a last beer before going our separate ways. His pilgrimage is finished for this year having walked from his home to Lausanne. He intends to walk from Lausanne to Rome in 2024.

What a wonderful pilgrimage I’m having, first walking with Eveline, then we met Walter after a day or two and then Silvia and Claudia joined us until Interlaken. So many happy memories to bring home even if I walk the rest of the way with only my mind for company.

We had to leave the yoga retreat this morning without breakfast but it wasn’t too long before a village in the woods provided the necessary coffee and croissants. It couldn’t have come much later because we were badly affected by the accidental 37Kms of yesterday.

Our walk was mostly downhill through the woods and alongside rushing streams. There were several chapels and we visited them all, playing our usual game of hunting the pilgrim stamp.

After saying goodbye to Walter in Lausanne station, I hopped on the train for one stop to Morges. It’s a nice resort on Lake Geneva and I’m taking a rest day here tomorrow, except I have to return to Lausanne to walk back here, but without my pack. It shouldn’t take too long and hopefully there’ll be many gelato shops along the way.

Plenty of water points along the way

  1. I am seeing more fake cows on your photos than real ones – is this something to do with AI?

    • AI or CGI or perhaps the local garden centre has them on offer. I think one would look good on your impressive new driveway. Let me know

Were your pilgrim stamp hunts successful?

    • Indeed. Every church on the Via Jacobi has a stamp. It’s sometimes quite hard to find but nothing comes easy on a pilgrimage
