Day 20 – To Vordingborg and back

Næstved to Vordingborg, 23Km

I got into a bit of a muddle deciding which stages to walk in this part of Denmark because there’s not a lot of accommodation and it’s mostly in the wrong place. As a result I have a third night in Næstved when I should have been enjoying the racy Saturday night vibes down in Vordingborg. And to rub salt in the ointment, the Næstved people are at home watching TV tonight after all that partying yesterday so the place is dead.

The real issue is that I set off early to walk to Vordingborg before the temperature hit 29 and when I arrived, I took the train straight back to Næstved. So it seemed rather pointless. Except it wasn’t because all the wild flowers are blooming along the trail, the insects are busy pollinating them and in the fields, the barley is growing and we all know why we need barley.

The Danish Pilgrim trail couldn’t decide whether to be scenic or rapido today. We waved goodbye to the main road with its cycle track but never quite reached yesterday’s nirvana. Instead the tarmac connected a few lifeless villages and then submitted to the inevitable cycle track for the long haul into the heat haze that enveloped Vordingborg.

The answer to the photo competition it’s a natural gas plant, presumably biofuel
Church in Hammer (locked)
Lundby. Take a moment to admire the tarmac, rich, deep and flawless
There and back
What a marvel
Amazing!
They’re not complaining about the sunshine

  1. Great photos and we are enjoying following your blog, Sherratts next door

    • Hi Jane, thanks, I still use my Sony camera. I think it takes better pictures than the phone but I put more effort into it than I would on the phone

  2. I got a little behind this week but I have just caught up. I agree. Your photographs are stunning and the history has been fascinating, especially Bluetooth.

    • Thanks MJ, I’m glad you’ve caught up because there’s store than a week to go

  3. Peter Mastenko

Great pics as usual. We will catch up with all after returning from la Belle France.

  4. Must be very frustrating with all the doubling back and forth. Did you take your senior rail card?

    • All seniors get reduced fares in Denmark but you have to subject yourself to the momentary glare of the conductor

  5. Those darling sunflowers 🙂

    Enjoying your writings & photos

    • They really are little darlings. You’re going to enjoy Denmark. I’m in NYC for 2 nights only, early October. Say if you fancy a coffee or breakfast!

      • I would enjoy that but we leave for our WW2 site seeing trip on Sept. 16 and return October 22 so I won’t be around. Where do you live in the UK?

      • I’m in Weybridge but I can easily meet you in London if you’re there before 25/9. Drop me an email on the About page

  6. I said that about the natural gas plant! i just didn’t say it here quickly enough.

    Do i win a prize?!

Fab photo’s. Enjoying the journey along with you

    • 😆 there’s never a prize! I rarely know the answer but someone always does

  7. Tassie Kaz
