Unquera to Llanes, 29Km
Breakfast was included at the Unquera hotel. Michael from Australia hurried off as soon as he saw me. He said he was keen to nab the lower bunk at the albergue in Llanes but I thought, as a couple, we’d work well together as I prefer the upper bunk.
I met Bill from Houston at the Unquera bridge. It’s the border with Asturias. We set off at a pace and soon collected Hermann on the way. Bill is a retired US marine. We marched along the cliff tops with little regard for caution. I said what a great job the US president was doing and before I could finish my sentence he gave me a high five and presented me with a Texas pin to proudly wear on my pack. At around 15Km I dropped off the pace and watched Bill and Hermann disappear into the distance. A few kilometres later I collected Hermann in a state of exhaustion, complaining about his knee.
Llanes is a pleasant little town with much to draw the visitors. The albergue is the old station building. It looks charming on the outside and pretty grim inside.

A good job you captioned the Bill & Hermann photo, we’d never have guessed which was which…
Who was who? Or are you being subtle??
