Day 18 – Pamplona at last

This is a big day for me because I have arrived at the Camino Frances which is the main pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela. It starts 3 days earlier just over the Pyrenees.

The weather finally broke today and I endured a dreadful 20km walk in driving rain and heavy winds. I stopped for a cafe con leche and muffin on the outskirts of Pamplona. A local man came up to shake my hand.

Pamplona is charming, at least in the old town. I checked in to my hotel then found a local restaurant for a sustained and sustaining lunch. And soon it was packed, as the churches emptied.

the little village of Iza in the rain
the local wine, free with every meal
best flan so far but I need to learn some Spanish dessert menu words
Pamplona is a milestone on my Camino
