This is a big day for me because I have arrived at the Camino Frances which is the main pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela. It starts 3 days earlier just over the Pyrenees.
The weather finally broke today and I endured a dreadful 20km walk in driving rain and heavy winds. I stopped for a cafe con leche and muffin on the outskirts of Pamplona. A local man came up to shake my hand.
Pamplona is charming, at least in the old town. I checked in to my hotel then found a local restaurant for a sustained and sustaining lunch. And soon it was packed, as the churches emptied.
